Visit of Monaco – Musee des timbres

Monaco’s Museum of Stamps and Coins displays the philatelic and
numismatic collections of the Sovereign Princes, a testimonial both
historic and artistic, technical and cultural, to the sovereignty of the
Principality. From the very first coins minted in Monaco bearing the
image of Honoré II in 1641, the first postage stamp issued by the Principality
bearing the image of Charles III in 1885, up until Monaco’s most recent stamps
and euros, all the elements involved in the production of these symbols of
coinage prerogative are here on show (preparatory designs, proofs, test prints).
In the Museum there are screenings of a documentary video on the
collections, and computer stations which can be consulted by visitors, listing
all the information accessible in the form of individual, illustrated documents.
The Museum’s boutique proposes books on stamps and coins, souvenirs such as
luxury ties and scarves with the Prince’s armorial bearings, sheets of stamps and
collector coins, assays and piéforts in gold and silver.
